We are proud to announce we offer laser therapy, an innovative new way to treat pain and inflammation in pets. Laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects such as improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. It has been utilized in Europe since the 1970’s and was cleared by the FDA in 2002, launching its now extensive use in the United States. Multiple studies have shown laser therapy can help with a variety of problems including arthritis, joint pain, ligament sprains, muscle strains, dog/cat bites, feline acne/asthma, hotspots, post trauma/surgery pain, hip dysplasia, lick granulomas and snake/bug bites.
How does it work? During each treatment, the laser increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area, creating an optimal healing environment. The infrared light interacts with tissues at the cellular level, increasing metabolic activity and improving the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane. This increases cellular function and health. The treatments are painless, with no sedation or restraint required – in fact most pets find the treatments to be pleasant and comforting. The typical treatment takes 3-8 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Most pets exhibit greater comfort and mobility within 12-24 hours after treatment.
Dozens of our patients have used laser therapy with very positive results. If you feel your pet may benefit from laser therapy or are interested in learning more about it, please call our office to schedule a consultation.
